Books about Hempnall

The 50th Anniversary of The Hempnall Group of Parishes was celebrated in 2014 and to mark the occasion two notable books have been produced.

1. “Golden Harvest” which contains a series of fascinating essays by clergy who have served in the group

2. “Hotchptch” is a light-hearted collection of memories, poems and illustrations by people living in the villages.

Copies are available from the Group office at Hempnall Rectory, The Street, Hempnall, Norwich, NR15 2AD

The Book of Hempnall A Treasure Trove of History’ by Maureen P Cubitt. It was published in 2008 by Halsgrove.

ISBN number: 978-1-84114-789-5

This is a reflection of times past and a celebration of the sense of community. By retracing the past and honouring the memories of those who went before us, we acknowledge the ties that linkus from generation to generation. The book is the culmination of 30 years of research by Maureen P Cubitt and contributions by many villagers. 8000Bc to the recent past with many photographs

Beyond the parish pump’ by Jill Turner, with a foreword by the Bishop of Norwich, line drawings by Monica L. Churchill and aerial photographs of the churches. It was published in September 2003 by The Hempnall Team Council.

ISBN number:0-9545274-0-2.

In 1964 the eight villages of Bedingham, Fritton, Hardwick, Hempnall, Morningthorpe, Shelton, Topcroft and Woodton became united as the Hempnall Group of Parishes. This book considers the development and significance of the Group in the light of social and economic changes which have taken place in these rural communities as seen through the eyes of those living in the villages. The book includes descriptions of the villages and the churches. There is also a time line, a summary of responses to extensive interviews and additional statistical information in the appendices.
